The Situation
A Business Bay office had several filing cabinets holding personnel and contract records, and the keys had gone missing over the course of a staff change. The cabinets were locked shut, the records were needed, and forcing them open would have destroyed usable furniture.
How We Approached It
Cabinet locks are small and easily damaged, so we opened each one without cutting into the cabinet body. Preserving the furniture was part of the brief, not an afterthought.
With the cabinets open, we replaced the lock units and keyed them all alike so the office manager holds one key for the whole set rather than a confusing handful. We also produced labelled spares to be stored securely rather than left in a desk drawer.
The Result
The office regained access to its records the same day, the cabinets are secure again, and one key now covers the full set. Because the furniture was undamaged, the entire cost stayed far below replacing several cabinets.
